Blackwell GC – Worcestershire. Monday 30th March 2015
The second Regional Qualifying Tournament of 2015 at the delightful Blackwell Golf Club was played in dry if somewhat chilly conditions on a course that was superbly presented for the end of March.
Scoring was outstanding, as was the general pace of play: thank you to everyone who took note of the ’10 Commandments’ (those who didn’t and faffed about….!?). Most competitors were round in 3 hours 40 minutes, thus we are back on track, after a disappointing pace of play the previous week at Hayling.
The winner on 39pts was ‘new boy’ Darren Murphy (0) Harborne, who strolled round Blackwell in three under par gross! To set a new all-comers GCS record for the best gross score – well played hardly seems to cover it! Runner up and another ‘new boy’ with a wonderful score of 38pts was Iain Burns (2) Little Aston, extremely well played. Ian Timberlake (2) Timberlake Golf, came in third with an impressive 36pts, whilst fourth was Scott Ballentine (12) Royal Worlington a previous qualifier, with 34pts. Adam Grint (4) Gerrard’s Cross, making a long awaited return to the Championship, was the third qualifier on 33pts, a score matched by Richard Dixon (8) Golf Union of Wales. The final qualifying place went to Judy Barker (19) Bishop’s Stortford, with 32pts, whose pleasure at holing a crucial putt on her 18th hole, was heard for miles around. Congratulations to one and all; we very much hope that you will all be able to join us for the Final at Hillside in May.
Thanks too, go to the Captain, Committee and members of Blackwell for again allowing us to stage one of our events at their very special Club. It is a privilege that we appreciate and never take for granted. Thanks too to Sarah Holroyd who smoothed our path and to all the staff who made us very welcome (the chicken and ham pie received very good reviews).
Our supporters were well represented, Chris O’Hagan of Golf Monthly, Rob Corcoran of Teeofftimes.co.uk, who put in yet another good score (32pts). Whilst Paul Mainstone of Keystone acted as photographer (click the link to Flickr below) and scorer Viv and Paul’s wife Carole dispensed the chocolate and sloe gin, which went down well (see photos).
There is space at both the remaining Regional Qualifying Tournaments:
