This year’s good fortune continued at Broadstone with lovely autumn weather and faultless playing conditions. Broadstone, it has to be said, is not for the faint-hearted.
The day’s winner was a previous qualifier, Iain McColl (6) Hankley Common with 34pts. Runner-up was Martin Gillett (5) Hobbs Cross with 33pts on countback from Chris Gotla (2) North Hants. Third and returning from a long absence from the Championship was Ian Veale (0) Tehidy Park, with 32pts. There were two other qualifiers, both on 31pts, Lance Quantrill (12) Army and Patrick Dawson (8) Burnham Beeches. Congratulations to one and all, very well played.
As ever our thanks go to our host David Morgan and his staff, as well as the Captain, Committee and members of Broadstone for their generosity in allowing us to once again enjoy their testing course and comfortable clubhouse. No mention of the current changing and shower arrangements – however, we all look forward to returning, to playing again and to testing the plumbing.
It was a delight to be supported by the ever genial Tim Read of Eagle, taking time out from his daughter’s 18th birthday celebrations. Thanks, too, to Stefanie Mainstone of Jonas Clubminder and Philip Vince of Majestic Crystal, in effervescent form both on and off the course. Finally, thanks and congratulations to Cameron Ritchie, representing new supporters Teeofftimes, for his support and in heading the field with an effortlessly accumulated 36 pts. Well played.
