Ladybank was a superb start to The GCS – 15th Open and despite some late withdrawals, we had a wonderful day on a most beautiful course, in superb order, with a most professional staff to look after us – all in all a great joy. The sun shone and whilst the chilly wind made for testing conditions (don’t mention the trees!) scoring was remarkably good.
The winner was John Masterton (6) Liberton, a new boy, with 36 pts. Runner-up and a regular finalist was Bob De Rose (12,) Dunfermline with 35 pts. Stephen Armstead (8), Manchester, was third on countback from Steve Isaac (12), The R&A, both on 35 pts.
Our thanks as always to all the competitors, some of whom had travelled vast distances to attend. Thanks too, to all at Ladybank and in particular the chef and our host Fraser McCluskey.
The ‘Team’ was showing signs of early season rust, which will no doubt quickly wear off, but nonetheless we were ably supported by Paul Mainstone, who jetted in from Northern Ireland, Eagle’s Eddie Comerford and Golf Monthly’s Fergus Bissett.
