Tadmarton Heath Golf Club

Tadmarton Heath – 13th April 2012

This year’s first Regional Qualifying Tournament at Tadmarton Heath can only, immodestly, be described as a huge success. The course, whilst not long, was testing and in superb order for the time of year; the weather too played its part with virtually wall to wall sunshine. A most enjoyable day on which to launch The GCS golfing year.

The winner was Clive Hadley (7) Copt Heath with 36pts, an excellent score. Clive retires this year and before he does (watch this space!) after many years of very loyal support he will be making yet another appearance in a Final. Runner up was Peter Frost (6) Buckingham and a ‘new boy’ to The Championship, also on 36pts. Third came Leighton Walker (3) Ross-on-Wye, 35pts, making a welcome return after a few years in the non-subscribing wilderness. Fourth was Luke Edgecombe (10) Sundridge Park, 35pts, who most surprisingly, considering his prodigious driving, will be making his first appearance in a GCS Final. Finally, fifth was Stephen Toon (7) Sunningdale 35pts, another regular Finalist. Our congratulations to them all. They join the previous 50 qualifiers who have made it through to the Final at Royal St. George’s on May 13th/14th. There is only one Regional Qualifying Tournament left, at Royal Birkdale on April 233rd, where we have assembled the largest field for a GCS event.

Our thanks go to John Cox and his most helpful team Tadmarton Heath. It was a great pity that due to his mother’s sudden illness, he was unable to be at the lunch/prizegiving. We all wish Mrs Cox a complete and speedy recovery.

John therefore was unable to hear or receive the plaudits; there was not a competitor in the dining room, who had not enjoyed and admired the course, irrespective of their score. We would like to thank all at Tadmarton Heath for there generosity in allowing to stage this Regional Qualifying Tournament over their testing and scenic course and we would all love to play it again.

We were joined by Philip Vince of Majestic Crystal, Phil McInley of Eagle, Paul Mainstone of Jonas/Clubminder, Mike Harris of Golf Monthly, Nathan Payne of TeeoffTimes and Chris O’Hagan of Club View, almost a full complement! We are, as always, extremely grateful for their support both behind the scenes and on the day.
