West Hill…..Exactly what we had hoped and prayed for, a beautiful autumn day with a course in excellent condition, despite the heavy overnight rain. The GCS – Open has ended 2012 on a high!
The winner was Ross McCue (3) West Herts with a superb 38pts, just edging out another form-horse John Broome (12), with 37pts. Both the winner and runner-up having previously qualified at Worplesdon, it was left to Andrew Salter (16) Sweetwoods Park , having narrowly missed out last week, to come in third and head this week’s qualifiers with 35pts. The remaining four qualifiers for the Final at Royal Liverpool next May, were: the ever present finalist, Stephen Billings (2) , Redlibbets, Chris Gotla (2), North Hants, the determined and much travelled Julie Ruscoe (13), Colchester and the even more determined and even further travelled Keith Adderley (13), Temple. Chris O’Hagan (2) Clubview also gets a mention for his 33pts as the leading supporter. Well done everyone.
For those still trying, please get your entries in early for Royal Worlington & Newmarket on March 21st, Fairhaven on April 9th and Parkstone on April 17th, where there are only 10 places remaining! Visit www.TheGolfClubSecretary.co.uk for an entry form – now.
Gina Rivett and her team (especially Jane and Starter Tom) at West Hill were exemplary; as several of you have emailed already, wonderful day, lovely course, delicious food and wine, together with a great welcome. Thank you. West Hill is a favourite. Our thanks go to the Captain, Committee and members (even the ones who teed off at 9.59!) for allowing us to stage another Regional Qualifying Tournament over their course.
Thanks too, to all the supporters present, Paul and Stefanie Mainstone of Clubminder, Philip Vince of Majestic Crystal, Barry Gibbs and John Hayes from C C V and James Manson of TeeoffTimes.
