The clear winner(s) were Keith (and Diana) Fisher (15) Rowlands Castle with 38 pts, an excellent score, which will ensure that Keith will be playing off 14 in the Final at Rye next month. Runner up and a previous qualifier was Michael Harris (7) Golf Monthly, who is in a rich vein of form and is a firm favourite for the non-secretaries prize at Rye . In third and the next qualifier, was a ‘new boy’, Peter Walter (6) The Royal Household, who came in with 35pts and in fourth on countback, was Ross McCue (3) West Herts with 34 pts. The remaining qualifiers were, Brian Cullen (7) Crews Hill 34pts, Brian Lever (11) Great Yarmouth and Caister, also a ‘new boy’ with 33pts, Niki Hunter (22) Letchworth 33pts, the well travelled John Aughterlony (9) Rocherster & Cobham Park 32pts, the very relaxed John Broome (13) also on 32pts and finally the ever present finalist, Bob Blower (10) Hampstead also with 32pts. Our congratulations to them all especially the three first time finalists (they are in for a treat at the Flakley Ash!). We look forward to seeing them all at Rye next month.
Our thanks to all at Denham, their Captain, Committee and Members for their generosity in allowing us play this Qualifying Tournament over their course, Secretary James Tucker and especially the starter Terry Jackson, who did wonders with the much rearranged running order and kept the members, champing at the bit, happy and relaxed whilst they waited. Thanks too to our supporters, Barry Gibbs of CCV, Mike Harris of Golf Monthly, Andrew Brown of Eagle, Philip Vince of Majestic Crystal and Jonas/Clubminder’s Stefanie and Paul Mainstone; the Champiosnhip would not be the same without them.
We were joined by a number of other ‘new boys and girls’, whom we hope will be encouraged to participate again, Maureen Brooker Farnham Park, Iain Quick, former printer of The GCS and chairman of PSOBGA, Mark Smith of Mark Smith Leisure and a contributor to the newsletter, Howard Till, North Middlesex, Alan Findlater, Pinner Hill, Sandy Heron, Bird Hills, Colin Whittle, Oxford City and Gary Ley, Central London Golf Centre. Thank you for coming, see you again soon?
