Enville GC – 12th October 2011

At Enville we enjoyed what our loyal band of travelling competitors deserved, warm and dry conditions, shirt sleeve order, with just a short sharp shower to remind us that it was very nearly the middle of October. The Highgate Course was in wonderful condition with very few leaves having descended, scoring was excellent and the entire field expressed their pleasure in an excellent golfing day.

The winner with 36pts was John Broome (13) formerly of Moor Park but now a Contributor to the newsletter and whose observations on CONGU and their handicapping have met with universal praise from the subscribers to The GCS. David Cromie (4) Royal Liverpool (our host for the Final in 2013) was the runner up with 34pts. In third, also with 34pts but losing out on count-back, came the much travelled Keith Adderley (13) Temple, who we are delighted to see back in the Finalists circle, his Strictly training obviously paying off; however, it was the realisation that he was only seven miles from his season ticket seat at Molyneux that clearly gave him that extra edge! The last qualifier was Chris Haywood (18) Hon. Treasurer at Abersoch with 33pts. Congratulations to them all.

Our thanks as always go to the Captain, Committee and members of Enville for their generous hospitality and support for The GCS – Open Championship.

Thanks too to Heather Mulley and the entire staff at Enville, who were absolutely charming. Special mention must be made of Vanessa, in charge of catering, has anyone ever seen such a portion of pie? Not to mention the well received and consumed birthday cake

Finally, our thanks as ever to the gallant band of loyal supporters, headed on this occasion by daughter Mainstone (Stefanie) Jonas/Clubminder, Dean Poynter of Eagle Promotions, Michael Harris and Jezz Ellwood, who battled it out for Golf Monthly honours together with Kevin Murray and putting in an excellent scoring performance (and qualifying!), Richard Barker of the fast growing Teeofftimes.
