Ladybank GC – Friday, 28th September 2018

Ladybank was a wonderful start to the series of autumn Regional Qualifying Tournaments for The GCS – 23rd Open Championship. Glorious sunshine, a wonderful course, in equally great order and a warm welcome from the Club and staff.

Ladybank Golf ClubThe long distance travellers prevailed, with all three qualifiers coming well over 500 miles to join the party. Ian Chamberlain (8) representing Frinton was the winner with 35 points, runner up with 34pts was Alan Davey (7) retiring secretary at Pyecombe and in third place (only from Cornwall!) was Gareth Evans (5) West Cornwall with 31pts. We very much look forward to seeing you all at the Ganton Final next May. Scoreboard attached.

Our thanks go to all at Ladybank and in particular Pam Meek and Will Blake for whom nothing was too much trouble and whose wife’s lasagne proved a great hit.

Well played Ian, (the decanter and gin are still in the boot…)

Personal thanks too to Adam in the pro’s shop for rescuing a set of clubs stupidly left propped up against the locker room wall and to Alan Feltham who kindly collected them and returned them to their idiot owner.

We had a variety of newcomers who played: David Miller, Head of Sport at new Supporters Bluefin Sport and Les Durno Cruden Bay together with guests Graham Callander Royal Burgess, Ian Cowan  Prestonfield, Niall Watson Peebles and  Ian Brown Whitecraigs. We very much hope to see them again at The GCS – Open somewhere in the future.

Thanks to the Supporters present: Bob King of BRS/Teeofftimes (who finished ‘third’ with 33 pts),  Craig Higgs of Golf Genius for the excellent scoring, Malcolm Pennycott of Eagle who put in yet another impressive performance. Thanks, as ever, to Majestic Crystal for a sparkling display complete with gin!

PS any pictures taken would be welcome to add to the collection…

Finally a mention must be made of a very loyal competitor and GCS Open stalwart, Chris Spencer GM at Glasgow Golf Club, which had only last week suffered 80% damage to the Georgian clubhouse in a disastrous fire (trophies saved). Chris who had a frazzled day, promised that he would be back once he has the temporary clubhouse (‘smoked’ dishes a speciality) up and running.
