The day’s winner was a ‘traveller’ and one who expressed great surprise at his success, but it was totally deserved as Martin Bennett (11) Mid Herts came in ahead two clear of the field with 35pts. Runner up was Mick Wain (11) Matlock, with 33pts on countback from Martin Gillett (5) Hobbs Cross, a previous qualifier. The remaining qualifiers for the Final at Royal St. George’s next May, were Alan Cook (13) Silkstone again on countback from Scott Ballentine (12) Royal Worlington and Jon Northover (11) Drayton Park all with 32pts. Well done.
Lindrick looked after us extremely well, the steak and kidney pie being a definite highlight! Our thanks go to everyone at the Club, especially Brian Noble who unfortunately was tied to his office and could not show us the way on the course. It was The GCS – Open’s first visit to this historic Club (venue for a lonely Ryder Cup win for GB&I in 1957) and we hope that the Captain, Committee and Members will not only accept our thanks for allowing us to enjoy their Club and course but even allow us back at some time in the future.
Thanks too to our gallant band of supporters, especially Stefanie Mainstone, who has been clocking up the miles of late on behalf of Jonas/Clubminder and doing a sterling job to boot. Also to Dean Poynter of Eagle, Richard Barker of Teeofftimes, Paul O’Hagan of Golf Monthly (a solid 32pts) and of course the every present Philip Vince of Majestic Crystal without whom we would all be faint for lack of chocolate – thank you all; without you it simply would not be the fun that it is.
