The awful weather of this autumn continued, however, we avoided the worst of the rain when the heavens opened after play had ceased. It was a testament to the condition and playability of the course that winter rules were not required.
The day’s winner was Keith Adderley (14) Temple, playing in the Championship for the 24th consecutive year, along with Keith Fisher now retired, both of whom played at Hintlesham Hall in 1997.
Keith scored 36pts winning comfortably from Andy Izod (13) Peterborough Milton with 33pts. In third came with Alistair Smith (12) NGCAA 32pts and fourth Chris Cuttler (6) Dore & Totley 31pts who had previously qualified at The Royal Burgess. The other three qualifiers were Bryan Frazer (9) Leamington & County with 31pts, John Holmes (5) Ifield and Mike Verhelst (8) Bury St Edmunds each on 30 pts. Our congratulations to them all on reaching the Final at Saunton next May.
Our thanks to all the staff at Northamptonshire County for making us so very welcome – their efforts both on and off the course were greatly appreciated and to the Captain, Committee and members of the Club for their generosity in allowing us to play their delightful course. It is a privilege that we both respect and very much enjoy. We would love to return in years to come – on a dry day!
A big thank you to all our Supporters present, especially Tim Webb of Tacit/Eagle making his Championship debut. A special mention for Andrew Gibbens (6) of PlayMoreGolf who had 32pts but was stricken with flu and ‘retired hurt’.
