Pannal GC – 7th October 2010

Despite early morning mist and ‘going’ that could be described as good to soft, the second Regional Qualifying Tournament at Pannal was played in the most glorious weather. There was no run on the ball so it might be assumed that the long hitters might have a distinct advantage, but that was not necessarily the case.

The winner and a long time supporter of The Golf Club Secretary – Open Championship was Clive Hadley (8) Copt Heath and one of the several ‘travellers’ in the field, who, despite a drive of two and half hours, collected 35pts, 19 on the back nine, to relegate Mick Thorpe (5) Dewsbury into second place on countback. Third was a newcomer to the Championship, Phil Kershaw (Scr) Rochdale with 33 pts and in fourth place, and the final qualifier for the Final at Ganton in May 2011, was Mike Cross (17) Oakdale with 32 pts.

Our thanks to all the competitors, especially those who travelled so far, to the Captain, Committee and Caterer, but most importantly host Secretary, Neil Douglas; it was a ‘grand day’.

We were very ably supported by Paul Mainstone and Jonathan Coates of Jonas Clubminder, Philip Vince of Majestic Crystal, Richard Dancy of Golf Locker Security, not forgetting Dean Poynter of Eagle who recorded an excellent 33pts.
