The weather was disappointing, constant drizzle for much of the round that goes through everything and everyone, but the course was in excellent order and a good number of the competitors beat the conditions to score very well.
The winner with 39pts and by a clear margin of 2pts, was the in-form Nell Ellice (13) Ipswich, who had already qualified, on Monday, at Ferndown. Twice in a week must be a record! Runner-up on 37pts was Trevor Glover (10) Chesterfield, Matthew Bowman (12) Morpeth was third on the same score. Fourth was Fergus Bissett (4) Golf Monthly on 35pts. Also qualifying for the Final at Rye in May were Jim Callaghan (4) Haggs Castle on 34pts, David Morgan (5) Gullane 33pts and Bill Dunn (16) Radcliffe on Trent 32pts. Well played to everyone and especially those who have already made the Final.
The reception we received from all at The Renaissance was superb, no detail was left unattended and everyone was hugely impressed with the clubhouse and course, one or two even mastering the shower controls! Lunch was delicious and perfectly presented. We are indebted to Ian Henderson of Golf Finance for all the trouble he took in arranging this most luxurious of fixtures. Corrinna Tempest-Mitchell the Club’s event co-ordinator was most helpful in smoothing our path.
Once again we were very fortunate to have a full Supporting cast Fraser Carr (the back marker in the field off +3!) and Barry Johnston from Teeofftimes/BRS, Dean Poynter and Eddie Comerford from Eagle, Fergus Bissett representing Golf Monthly, Jamie Abbott, intelligentgolf’s managing director and Eamon Gallagher from Marsh, our very welcome returning Supporter. The Majestic Crystal prize table looked as good as ever.
